REMEMBRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
"On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 left London’s Heathrow Airport headed for New York City. At 7:03 p.m. (Greenwich Mean Time) the Boeing 747, known as Clipper Maid of the Seas, leveled off at 31,000 feet. Just north of the England-Scotland border, an explosion blew a basketball-sized hole in the fuselage. The plane, carrying 259 men, women and children, broke apart and fell to Earth. All were killed, along with 11 residents of Lockerbie, Scotland. What seemed at first like a horrific accident was soon proven to be the result of a terrorist bomb planted in a radio-cassette recorder inside a suitcase in the forward cargo hold."

Aboard the plane was 35 Syracuse Abroad students returning home from a semester in London and Florence. To remember the precious lives lost, Syracuse University established 35 Remembrance Scholarships awarded to 35 rising seniors. The motto of the program is to "Look Back, Act Forward" whereby the 35 chosen students are paired with each of the 35 lost. During the fall semester, the cohort is tasked with organizing events for Remembrance Week that October.

This past year, I had the absolute honor of being chosen as one of the 35 remembrance scholars. Through this amazing program, I've gotten to meet some of the most amazing, dedicated, and passionate individuals on campus, and learn all about my victim, Alexander Lowenstein. Connecting with people both on campus and past scholars and being so deeply involved with the program has been a life changing experience, and has taught me the very important message of commemorating and acting forward in the memory of those we lost 33 years ago.

This upcoming semester, I look forward to continuing the legacy of Remembrance as a member of the Remembrance Scholarship Selection Committee.

STUDY ABROAD
I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Florence, Italy, during the spring of 2020. Although the COVID-19 pandemic cut my time in Europe short, my experience abroad was nothing short amazing. Between the beautiful landmarks, delicious food, and enthralling culture I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. During my time, I was able to blog my experience on a weekly basis and catalog it on my website. Check it out here.
